Château du CarreLa Terrasse leisure centre
On this heritage trail you will discover, in 13 stages, the village's places of memory and picturesque sites, complemented by a viewpoint indicator.
Stage 1: The water sports centre
The water sports centre of La Terrasse was created in 1968 when the motorway was built. It covers about 7 ha.

Stage 2: St Aupre Church
The Church was built on an ancient site in the 7th century; a funerary inscription from 522 and sarcophagi from the 8th and 9th centuries were found in the foundations.

Stage 3: The spa
It was located in the park belonging to the Marquis de Bourneville, Lord of the manor; today this park is occupied by "la Chantourne", a medical-educational institute. The main building was built in 1894.

Stage 4: The old village square
In the 17th century, the old village square was located at the crossroads of rue de l'Orme and rue Port St Gervais; note the rue de la Voûte, a remarkable street.

Stage 5: The silkworm farms
These buildings were used for rearing silkworms, the caterpillar of the Bombyx Mori moth.
4 silkworm farms still exist in the municipality.
The one on the town hall square houses the community hall.

Stage 6: La Terrasse remembers

Stage 7: The charity house

Stage 8: Place de la Cave
A cooperative wine cellar was built on this square in 1936, standing alongside the grain silo for around ten years.

Stage 9: The Carre chapel
In 1881 a procession made its way to the chapel under construction to install a statue of the Virgin in tribute to Our Lady of Lourdes.
The work, carried out by the inhabitants of the hamlet, was completed in 1883.

Stage 10: The Carre fortified house
The one in the hamlet of Le Carre, a private property, has 2 engaged circular towers, one of which has a polygonal roof.
Note the porch topped by 4 double-stepped corbels opening onto the rue du château.

Stage 11: The power station
It was built in 1894 and allowed the electrification of the villages of La Terrasse and Lumbin from the end of the 19th century.
The penstock coming down from the Plateau des Petites Roches can still be seen today.

Stage 12: The Carre castle
Or the fortified house "Le Berlioz", no doubt built by the Berlioz family, Lords of La Terrasse.

Stage 13: The hamlet of Lachat: the wine cellars, l'Evêché.
At the top of the hamlet of Lachat, "L'Evêché", the summer residence of the bishops of Grenoble until 1790, is today a private property.
