Cycling route Bramefarine
Pontcharra - Allevard - Le Cheylas
Loop: intermediate level
All along this route you will be able to discover:

Cultural site:
In the municipality of Saint-Maximin:
The Avalon Tower - 33 metres high, with an inner diameter of about 8 metres and walls 2 metres thick on the first floor.
The Avalon Tower bears witness to the history of a family of lords present in the upper Grésivaudan from the year 1000: the Wallon and Romestang d'Avalon.
In the 12th century, Guillaume III Romestang, lord of the Avalon mandement, and his wife, Anna de Theys, occupied the ancestral fortified house (castrum), located a little further north than the present tower, which already had a round tower.
In 1132 the Romestang family was indeed called "la famille de la Poype". A poype was then a common noun meaning "the tower". Owning one was above all a symbol of power.

Viewpoint:
From the Tour d'Avalon over all the Alpine massifs. From Mont Aiguille in the Vercors to Mont Blanc, taking in the foothills of the Chartreuse and Belledonne.
