From 02 May to 30 June, the town hall is hosting an exhibition of previously unseen photos by Gilles Renou. "The last breaths of the medical and surgical centre on the Petites Roches plateau".
"For nearly 80 years, this establishment employed as many people from all professions as it welcomed patients. A great many inhabitants of the Grésivaudan valley, of Isère and of the neighbouring departments have a friend, relative or colleague who went to the CMC as a patient, staff member or visitor.
Since May 2009, the year of its last activities and of its relocation to the Hôpital Sud in Echirolles, the abandoned building has been completely looted and ransacked. It had become a gigantic playground for airsoft and paintball enthusiasts, but also a meeting place for graffiti artists, curious or nostalgic walkers… and photographers.
Many of us tried to bring this centre back to life through original shots. But for some time now, not a single kindly soul. Only the noise of caterpillar tracks and sections of wall collapsing, smashed by steel jaws.
It is these last breaths that I captured during the very final phase of demolition, in November 2018."
Gilles RENOU, photographer.
