Located at an altitude of 930 m, on the edge of the very popular Chartreuse massif, the fairly extensive municipality of Sainte Marie du Mont has 5 hamlets: St Georges, Les Prés (village centre), La Chapelle/Vieille Eglise, Le Villard and Bellechambre.

Today, visitors and tourists come to Sainte Marie du Mont mainly for green tourism. They can also stop at the Ferme de Bellechambre, a residential home for disabled adults, to buy cheeses made on site by the residents.
